WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Legal (AFL) launched the second phase of its comprehensive investigation into the credible allegations of improper collusion by the Biden White House and Department of Justice (DOJ) in the sham political show trial of President Trump conducted by Alvin Bragg, the New York County District Attorney’s Office, and Judge Juan Merchan.
Today, AFL sued the DOJ to compel the immediate release of previously requested records regarding Matthew Colangelo, a key figure in the partisan and politically-motivated prosecution of President Trump in Manhattan. In December 2022, Bragg reportedly hired Colangelo to “jump-start” his office’s investigation of President Trump, reportedly due to Mr. Colangelo’s “history of taking on Donald J. Trump and his family business.” Mr. Colangelo previously held senior positions at the DOJ and the New York Attorney General’s Office, both of which had competing investigations related to President Trump.
Additionally, AFL has filed a second tranche of three Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
- The first seeks communications between Colangelo and the New York County District Attorney’s Office, Special Counsel Jack Smith, Jay Bratt, David Harbach, and the group called “Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington” (CREW)
- The second seeks communications between Matt Klapper and the New York County District Attorney’s Office, Special Counsel Smith, Bratt, Harbach, Colangelo, the Public Integrity Section of the DOJ, and CREW. Klapper is the Chief of Staff to Attorney General Merrick Garland. Klapper is a longtime Democratic political operative. He got his start as an aide to then-Newark City Councilman Corey Booker and came to D.C. when Booker was elected to the United States Senate. Attorney General Garland is responsible for infamously targeting concerned parents who attend school board meetings, and weaponizing DOJ against conservatives.
- The third seeks communications between Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General Marshall Miller and the New York County District Attorney’s Office, Special Counsel Smith, Bratt, Harbach, Colangelo, the Public Integrity Section of the DOJ, and CREW.
These critical records will expose the relationship between Colangelo, Klapper, the Biden White House, Special Counsel Smith, and the New York County District Attorney in the sham prosecution of President Trump. The “Russia collusion” hoax turned out to be a deep state operation to interfere in the 2016 election and then to cripple the duly elected President of the United States. The American people have a right to know the extent to which the deep state is also part of the New York show trial circus and the leftist election interference program. AFL will keep fighting to uncover the truth.
