Problem:

Northwestern's law school has allegedly propagated and enforced a mandate to hire as many non-white and non-male faculty candidates as possible. The school has hired candidates from preferred demographics while rejecting white men with vastly superior publication records and more impressive educational and professional credentials. Additionally, the Northwestern University Law Review has engaged in race and sex discrimination by giving preference to women, racial minorities, homosexuals, and transgender individuals when selecting its articles, editors, and members.

Federal law prohibits universities that accept federal funds from discriminating on account of race or sex. The alleged discriminatory activity occurring at Northwestern is in violation of federal civil rights laws.

Action:

AFL sued Northwestern University for engaging in race and sex discrimination.

Result:

This case is currently being litigated.
