AFL v. Department of Justice

Case Number: 1:24-cv-00695, D.D.C.

FOIA Litigation
March 2024
Status: Ongoing
FOIA Litigation

Problem:

In October 2021, Attorney General Garland requested that the FBI investigate concerned parents who oppose radical teachings like Critical Race Theory and sexually explicit children’s books. In 2022, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) released its annual “Year in Hate and Extremism” report, calling these parental rights organizations part of the “anti-government movement.” The Biden Administration has maintained a concerningly close relationship with the SPLC, and AFL submitted a FOIA request to uncover the connection between the SPLC’s report and the weaponization of the Department of Justice. DOJ has refused to comply with the request.

Action:

AFL has filed suit against the DOJ to enforce the release of the documents requested.

Result:

This case is currently being litigated.
