Amid federal probe, Prince William County School Board vows to protect trans students

“On Feb. 12, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights notified Prince William County Schools it had launched an investigation into allegations made by the conservative America First Legal Foundation. The foundation filed a complaint on Feb. 3, alleging that policies followed by four Northern Virginia school divisions – including Prince William – are discriminatory.

Specifically, the group objects that the school divisions allow students to use bathroom and locker rooms based on their gender identity, rather than their sex, which it says violates Title IX and Trump’s “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K–12 Schooling” executive order.”

“The group’s complaint argues that transgender students are being afforded “greater rights” than other students if they are allowed to use facilities that match their gender identity rather than their biological sex. The complaint asked the federal education department to investigate despite halting thousands of other investigations, according to ProPublica.”
