John Doe v. New York University

Problem:

Despite federal law prohibiting universities that receive federal funding from discriminating on the basis of race and sex, the New York University (NYU) Law Review selects members and editors based on race and sex preferences, clearly violating Title VI and Title IX.

Action:

AFL sued NYU on behalf of a first-year law student who is seeking declaratory and injunctive relief to prevent the Law Review from discriminating against or giving preferential treatment to any person on account of that individual’s race and sex.

Result:

This case is currently being litigated.
