WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Legal (AFL) sent a letter to William MacFarland, the Sergeant at Arms of the U.S. House of Representatives, asking him to commence an investigation into leftist “activist” David Brock, the Congressional Integrity Project, and Facts First USA for potentially unlawful obstruction of Congressional oversight investigations.
Federal law prohibits the use of force or threats to influence, obstruct, or impede Congressional oversight investigations. However, an October 25, 2022, “memorandum” from Brock promised to do precisely those things. Brock characterized congressional Republicans as “attackers” and promised to “ferociously” engage in “direct attacks” against Congressional staff and Members investigating the Biden family’s foreign influence-peddling and alleged tax fraud; to create “an environment of backlash” against oversight of Biden Administration corruption; and to coordinate “among like-minded groups for maximum pushback.”
Recent history strongly suggests these “direct attacks,” “backlash,” and “maximum pushback” will include the unlawful intimidation and obstruction of witnesses, staff, and Members. To protect our democracy, Mr. Brock’s threats must be taken very seriously. Therefore, AFL is calling for an investigation of his activities, affiliates, and dark money donors to protect the rule of law and preserve the integrity of Congressional oversight investigations.
