WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Legal (AFL) launched a multi-front investigation into the Biden Administration’s failure to properly police the anti-American/pro-Hamas riots at the Watergate Hotel and Union Station in Washington, D.C. The rioters, apparently coordinated by the ANSWER Coalition, burned the United States flag, assaulted police officers, and vandalized monuments. Incredibly, the Biden Administration failed to secure the Watergate Hotel, where the Prime Minister of Israel Bibi Netanyahu and his delegation were staying in advance of his Congressional address.
This first phase of AFL’s investigation focuses on the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service’s (DSS) protective detail of the Watergate Complex on July 24, 2024, and on United States Park Police records regarding the Department of Interior’s decision to leave twenty-nine officers at the mercy of thousands of pro-Hamas rioters at Union Station, a decision that led to assaults and monument desecration.
On January 5, 2024, AFL reported non-public information from Department of Justice (DOJ) career insiders suggesting that political leaders in the Office of the Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights have issued an effective stand-down order to United States Attorneys and to federal law enforcement concerning Hamas’s network of U.S.-based supporters and front groups. Others, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, have pointed out the plain and stark contrast between the Biden Administration’s favorable treatment of violent and destructive pro-Hamas rioters with its harsh treatment of peaceful J6 protestors. This double standard undermines public confidence in our government and undermines the rule of law.
