WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Legal (AFL) released the following statement from AFL Senior Vice President Reed D. Rubinstein regarding President Joe Biden’s pardon of his son, Hunter Biden:
“President Joe Biden repeatedly told us that he would not pardon his son, Robert Hunter Biden, for his federal crimes. Yesterday, however, Mr. Biden granted Hunter a ‘Full and Unconditional Pardon’ for ‘those offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 1, 2014, through December 1, 2024.’ Notably, the pardon covers the entire time that Hunter served on the board of Burisma, the Ukrainian natural gas company, and improperly lobbied the U.S. government on its behalf.
“President Biden’s action has no precedent in our Republic’s history. He claimed that Hunter was ‘selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted’ and that the charges came about only after ‘several of [Mr. Biden’s] political opponents in Congress instigated them [sic] to attack me and oppose my election…It is clear,’ Mr. Biden said, ‘that Hunter was treated differently.’
“The evidence obtained by AFL, the House Judiciary Committee, the House Oversight Committee, and others confirms that Hunter and his family were indeed ‘treated differently’ — they received special treatment from federal law enforcement that is denied to ‘ordinary’ American citizens. The FBI and the Department of Justice were aware of but silent about the Biden family’s foreign financial entanglements and conflicts of interest. In 2020, the FBI hid Hunter’s laptop from public view, thereby ‘fortifying’ the 2020 Presidential election and protecting his family’s foreign influence-peddling business.
“Mr. Biden’s pardon relieves Hunter from the consequences of his crimes. But it is not the end of the story. To begin with, all the facts and circumstances regarding both the FBI’s coverup of Hunter’s laptop in advance of the 2020 election and its knowledge of the Biden family’s foreign business arrangements have yet to be made public. Our work, and the work of our partners, to ensure full disclosure will continue. Our citizens have a right to know how and why the Bidens merited special treatment from the FBI and other government agencies; the public deserves the truth.
